The South African-themed Cain is New York's latest exclusive night club. The club showcases Rane gear in a unique sound system designed by Paul Bell.

Cain is an elite lounge and night club located in the heart of New York City's club district. It features a South African motif (click on the photos at right), and a top quality sound system designed for extended periods of high volume operation. The foundation of the club's DJ system is a Rane MP 44 Club Mixer. Two permanently installed Rane Scratch LIVE SL 1 Interfaces are connected to the mixer, one for vinyl and one for CD playback. In harmony with Cain's decor, the entire DJ music system is built into a carved boulder weighing around nine tons! For security and configuration control reasons, the entire system (including a wireless microphone receiver) is locked down with special tamper proof fasteners, and the backside of the mixer is inaccessible. The resident DJ has access to two Scratch LIVE SL 1 USB cables, two aux inputs, one aux output, and the FX loop. Directly to the left and right of the DJ stand are two 800 watt, coaxial monitor speakers made by McCauley. (Paul Bell refers to these as "Texas Headphones".) The sound system includes four Meyer HP700 powered subwoofers (in a single stack), two SLS three-way cabinets, and custom McCauley 12x2-inch cabinets. An outer ring of smaller McCauley cabinets are also deployed. All loudspeakers are powered by QSC Powerlight amplifiers, with crossover duties performed by an Ashly matrix DSP in a 4x20 configuration. PBell Sound is currently installing Rane products in a new music system for Atlantis, a new club opening in Paradise Island, Bahamas. Atlantis will be the entertainment center of a new $750 million resort. |
