Live sound venues take full advantage of Rane's Drag Net audio products.
Greg Nelson

Long time FOH engineer for Pearl Jam and Incubus, Greg Nelson has the enviable task of mixing two diverse performances.

Pearl Jam is well known for their improvised performances, using an amazing array of vintage guitars and amplifiers. Incubus, on the other hand, mixes rock guitars with samples, turntable acrobatics, and massive subwoofer signals.

Maintaining control of such varied audio sources is a daunting challenge for any FOH engineer, especially when band members make spontaneous changes in instrument selection during each performance.

Introduced to Rane's Dynamic EQ during Pearl Jam's last tour, Greg Nelson found himself using it on an amazing array of inputs, including Eddy Vedder's vocal. The ability to apply subtle or radical equalization to the source signal---all based on the dynamic signal itself---offers live sound engineers the ability to focus on mixing, rather than attempting to compensate for dynamically changing input sources and sounds.

Currently on tour with Incubus, Greg continues to find new uses for Rane's Dynamic EQ and its unique "Relative Threshold" approach. To learn more about Rane's dynamic EQ methodology, click here.

Rane's Dynamic EQ consists of 2 TDM plugins for the Digidesign Pro Tools HD or VENUE platforms, combining the pristine sound quality and features of the C4 Compressor / G4 Gate with a graphical user interface. For sound engineers working in the analog domain, the Rane C4 Quad Compressor/Limiter offers the same DSP algorithms in a standard rackmount enclosure.

"Rane's Dynamic EQ is fantastic! It lets me achieve more consistent mixes, and allows the real music to come through the sound system. This is one tool I want to take with me wherever I go."
