Sully

A long-time Rane fan, FOH engineer Chris Sullivan (known to everyone as Sully) is currently touring with Luke Bryan.

Newcomer Luke Bryan's album debuted at #2 on the country charts, and the second single from the album is currently #5. On tour this year with Trace Atkins and Dierks Bentley, Luke's show relies on Sully's handiwork at the mixing console.

Sully has also worked with Joe Nichols (Tom New Male Vocalist of 2003), Veruca Salt, Margaret Becker, Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez, Amy Grant, and Steven Curtis Chapman. All of these artists have relied on Sully's sonic expertise.

Sully is a long-time fan of Rane gear: "For all my live shows, the Rane C4 Quad Compressor/ Limiter is an absolute must-have device. The C4's PEQ section is my favorite and most useful feature. The entire unit is excellent and easy to operate, but the PEQ really helps smooth out the mix."

In most live sound applications, Sully also relies on Rane's PEQ 55 Parametric Equalizer. With the increasing use of software-based FFT analysis programs, parametric EQ has become the method of choice for correcting a loudspeaker's performance.

But Sully insists that the PEQ's use in suppressing room resonances is the ideal application for a PEQ.

"It's an art  best done by ear, and truly requires a device capable of linking Stereo Left and Right channels. The Rane PEQ 55 excels at this, allowing management of both sides by a single set of controls," he writes.

"Rane's PEQ 55 is a shining sonic gem, suppressing room resonances wherever I go."

"As a reviewer for various magazines, I read a ton of user manuals. Usually, they are difficult to read at best, indecipherable at worst. Not so with Rane. I actually learned some new things about compression and de-essing from the Rane C4 User Manual. This boutique company continues to surprise me, with gear I can easily strap on to the expensive English consoles I prefer.
