Culcha Candela was formed in Berlin in 2002 by founding members Jonny Strange, Itchyban and Lafrotino. They were later joined by singers Larsito, Mr. Reedoo and Don Cali, as well as DJ Chino con Estilo.
The members' different ethnic backgrounds contribute to their songs, with lyrics in German, English, Spanish and Patois. This multiculturalism is also evident in their music videos.
After winning many fans with their funky debut album, the group recently released their third CD - Welcome Back, Culcha Candela.
In their live shows, Culcha Candela gives off a totally unique vibe that has been rocking audiences from Warsaw to Bogotá, from Amsterdam to Venice, and from Paris to Berlin.
The non-stop performance schedule of these busy young Berliners requires the most reliable equipment, and the group counts on Rane's live sound gear to deliver - night after night, city after city.
The technical director and sound engineer for the group, Roman Conrad, relies on Rane C4 Quad Compressor/Limiters, as well as the Rane PEQ 55 Parametric Equalizer.
Culcha Candela's DJ Chino (see photo at right) absolutely loves his Rane TTM 57SL Mixer with built-in Rane Serato Scratch LIVE. "This is the most intelligent mixer I've ever had my hands on. It's the first time I'm not missing even one feature in a mixer."
Chino continues, "The faders are incredible! The handling is perfect, and the many versatile connections make it easy for set-ups at home, in clubs, or on stage. The intelligent EFX Sends and Returns are also very nice."
Culcha Candela gets its Rane gear from Lukas Neubauer (Managing Director) and Josef Becker (Owner) at Pro Audio-Technik Ltd., based in Gelnhausen, Germany. |

"Undoubtedly, the best thing about the Rane TTM 57SL Mixer is that the Serato Scratch LIVE interface and software are built in. This eliminates the problems of cabling, snakes, and shaky bodies. And it all comes in one small package. Anyone who has used a digital vinyl control system certainly understands what I'm raving about."
