Stretching between Broadway and Mercer in New York City's Soho distict, American Eagle Outfitters' 81st retail store has 5 large rooms filled with innovative technologies. A wireless audio/video system is available for in-store DJ performances. Photo kiosks allow customers to instantly email images of themselves wearing potential purchases to close friends.
The heart of the system is a 6-zone audio/video system installed by Danny Barnycz of Baltimore's Barnyce Group. Five rooms are stereo zones, and the dressing room area is a single mono zone.
Barnycz selected Rane SR 3 Smart Remote Controls to independently select the audio/video source and volume for each of the store's zones. Sources available include 3 DVD players, 2 wall inputs (for in-store DJ performances), and a satellite feed.
Audio processing is handled elegantly by two Rane RPM 88 Programmable Multiprocessors, allowing control of all processing blocks within the retail outlet. Each can be easily configured using Rane's Drag Net software for Windows.
Three, 6-channel, Rane MA 6S Multichannel Amplifiers drive multiple Tannoy loudspeakers and subwoofers throughout the store. |

"It takes a great deal of ingenuity to impress retail customers these days. American Eagle Outfitters wanted to use technology to entertain, but also to help its customers make decisions about their purchases. Rane's products were an easy decision for us. They combine professional quality audio with reliable packaging, and their product designs reveal a deep understanding of the inherent problems of retail audio/video installations.'
