Mongoose Helps CobraNet Work Smarter
CobraNet revolutionized the distribution of audio in large-scale venues. However, if you’ve used CobraNet, you’ve run into a couple of “gotcha’s”. Since CobraNet is based on multiple virtual bundles of 8 audio channels, it is generally too expensive to use in transporting small numbers of audio channels. Rane's new Mongoose and RAD remotes solve these problems (along with a few others) by converting audio to or from digital at the wall plate and transporting it over CAT 5 cables. It allows you to route these remotes to or from CobraNet and aggregate audio channels for full bundle utilization. Mongoose provides significant reductions in cost, labor and set up:
- CAT 5 cable instead of more expensive mic cables.
- Automatic self-testing of cables and remotes.
- Eliminates EMI and ground loops.
- Allows hot-swapping of RAD remote wall plates.
- Crimp-on RJ-45 connectors rather than soldering XLRs.
Mongoose’s 32-by-32 matrix router receives 16 audio channels from eight RADs via eight 8P8C (RJ-45) RAD ports. The second group of 16 input channels comes from two eight-channel CobraNet receive Bundles via CobraNet Primary and Secondary/backup ports. The 32 matrix router outputs 16 channels to eight RADs and 16 more channels to two CobraNet transmit Bundles.
RADs convert analog audio to and from 24-bit, 48 kHz digital audio and mount in standard US electrical gang boxes. CAT 5 cable transport four channels – two in each direction – along with power, ground and a communications channel via Rane’s proprietary RAD Network.
The Ethernet port provides direct or network connection to a computer running the included Mongoose Tracker setup software. It supports Auto MDI/MDIX, which detects and permits either an Ethernet crossover cable (included) or a standard Ethernet cable when directly connecting to a computer for setup.
Mongoose and RAD remotes are scheduled to ship June 2008.

Serato Video-SL Software Plug-In For Scratch LIVE
Rane and Serato are pleased to announce release and shipping dates for the brand new Serato Video-SL software plug-in for Scratch LIVE. Video-SL will require version 1.8 of Scratch LIVE and the Rane TTM 57SL Mixer.
Video-SL is a software plug-in for Scratch LIVE which adds the ability to playback and mix video files with the Rane TTM 57SL mixer. Manage a variety of video clips from within the Scratch LIVE library and load them onto a virtual deck for control with either vinyl or CD. The controls of the TTM 57SL allow you to mix clips with a variety of transitions, as well as apply exciting effects to each video clip. The mixed output can be sent to your computer’s secondary display for connection to external monitors or projectors.

Legendary Berlin Tresor Club now Standardized with Rane Serato Scratch LIVE
The Tresor Club in Berlin is one of the most famous Techno Clubs in the World.
Since its opening in 1991 in a former vault of a Berlin department Store near Potzdamer Platz, numerous national and international Top DJs have played at the Tresor Club.
The Club and its own record-label Tresor Records had immense influence on the evolution of the German and European Techno and Electro Scene.
Since May 24th 2007 the Club has reopened in its new Location, a former power station in Berlin Mitte near Köpenicker Strasse.
Rane Serato Scratch LIVE, the well established DJ-Tool, which can compete easily with the ranking of a Technics SL1210, is now installed permanently on both floors of the club (Tresor and Batterieraum) thanks to the cooporation between Tresor Club and Rane Deutschland. Scratch LIVE will be standard equipment in the Tresor Club. This means national and international DJs can now work more easily with their digital music-collection.
To utilize the equipment the only thing needed is the Scratch Live Software, which is available for free at www.scratchlive.net.

Nike, Rane and Serato team up to create the Air Force 1 and Scratch LIVE Package to celebrate the AF1’s 25th anniversary
As part of the Air Force 1’s silver anniversary, Nike has collaborated with cutting-edge partners Rane and Serato to create a special edition AF1 and White Scratch LIVE package. The collaboration recognizes the intersection of sports, music and innovation within hip-hop culture.
For the past 25 years the Air Force 1 has made a journey from an innovative performance product to a hip-hop icon. In recognition of this, Rane and Serato have worked with Nike to produce the truly innovative Scratch LIVE package for the digital-age hip-hop DJ.
The Serato Scratch
Central to hip-hop culture is the DJ, whose developed and perfected skills now benefit from the latest technology with Rane’s Serato Scratch LIVE – a revolutionary product that enables DJs to control digital audio files on their laptop with vinyl control records on their turntables.
Air Force 1 and Scratch LIVE Package
Popular Japanese company Head-Porter was approached to create a custom-made bag for transporting a laptop, the Scratch LIVE units and accessories. Constructed from white ballistic nylon, the bag features the Nike pivot logo which references the iconic sole detail of the AF1. To complete the pack, the commemorative White/White AF1 shoe sports the Scratch LIVE logo and incorporates the same white ballistic nylon used for the bag.
A limited number of Air Force 1 and Scratch LIVE packages were created for leading DJs around the globe. Unfortunately, none of these packages are available for purchase.

Rane Granted Patent on Perfect-Q™ Technology
Mukilteo, WA - The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has granted US Patent 7,266,205, “Linearized Filter Band Equipment and Processes,” to inventor Ray Miller and assignee Rane Corporation. The technologies patented form the heart of Rane’s popular live sound graphic EQs, the DEQ 60 and DEQ 60L. They also are the graphic EQ building blocks found in their Drag Net software controlled RPM series Programmable Multiprocessor DSP units. These also drive the Serato Rane Series Graphic Equalizer Pro Tools plug-in for the Digidesign ICON and are bundled with VENUE consoles.
