PEQ 55 Parametric Equalizer

Equal parts problem solver, creative tool and secret weapon, Rane’s dual channel PEQ 55 features five bands of fully parametric equalization, adjustable high-cut and low-cut filters, and three-band Accelerated Slope™ tone controls per channel. Front panel controls select between dual mono 5-band, mono 10-band, and stereo linked 5- or 10-band operating modes. Analog ease of use combined with high performance digital technology make the PEQ 55 ideal for professional sound reinforcement, fixed installation, broadcast and recording applications.

The PEQ 55 combines analog controls and high performance digital processing to achieve an unprecedented feature set. Benefits of this approach:

  • The ability to easily A/B two EQ curves
  • The ability to link channels
  • Improved accuracy and repeatability
  • Exceptional immunity to RF and electromagnetic interference

Each Parametric Filter Controls:

  • GAIN: Range is +12 dB to -24 dB, with a 0 dB center detent.
  • BW (bandwidth): Range is 1/12 to 2 octaves with each dot representing ¼ octave.
  • FREQUENCY: Total range is 12.5 Hz to 20 kHz, with the multiplier switch.
  • Each Hz multiplier covers a 4 octave range:
    • x0.1 operates from 12.5 Hz to 200 Hz
    • x1 operates from 125 Hz to 2 kHz
    • x10 operates from 1.25 kHz to 20 kHz
  • Individual switches BYPASS each filter without affecting the others.
  • Individual OL (overload) warning indicators light at 0 dBFS (digital clipping).

Additional Filters Included

DEQ Tone ControlsLOW, MID, and HIGH TONE controls provide independent, Accelerated-slope™, 3-band Tone controls allow easy, intuitive adjustment of tone response in addition to the parametric bands. The Tone controls use 12 dB per octave Linkwitz-Riley filters. Center detent provides a guaranteed flat response when you don't need them.

  • The Low/Mid crossover point is 300 Hz.
  • The Mid/High crossover point is 4 kHz.
  • The control range is +6 dB to OFF.
DEQ 60 Tone Controls

DEQ Cut FiltersAdditionally, the LOW CUT and HIGH CUT FILTERS remove the unheard and unwanted extremeties.

The LOW CUT FILTER is adjustable over four octaves with a frequency range of 15 Hz to 240 Hz.

The HIGH CUT FILTER is adjustable over two octaves from 5 kHz to 20 kHz.

PEQ 55 Support

Unless you truly have golden ears, most people have a hard time knowing exactly where to set each control. Luckily there are several computer-based tools available to help.

Can I use the XLR and 1/4" and Euro outputs at the same time?

Yes. Both sets of output connections may be used simultaneously. However only one input may be used at a time. If you combine a unbalanced 1/4" with a balanced XLR you could create a ground loop problem. See "Sound System Interconnection" below.
