Firmware Upgrades

SECURITY WARNING! Before entering CODELOAD to do a RPM unit firmware update with Drag Net 4.1 or higher, set the security level to "UNLIMITED ACCESS" in Device Security Setup. Passwords enabled in other security settings can cause a RPM unit to be trapped in CODELOAD during the firmware update. Escaping this trap requires the unit to be returned to the Factory! Once the firmware is updated the issue goes away.

What is firmware?

Firmware is software code that resides inside a hardware chip inside most microprocessor devices, including the RPM family of products. While firmware is technically software, it dictates how the hardware behaves -- thus it's "between" soft and hard. Thus the term firmware.

Why is firmware?

New firmware versions are created to support new functionality or to fix defects in previous firmware versions. You can update the firmware inside an RPM using a separate application, called the Update Device Firmware Wizard. Drag Net will tell you if you need to update your firmware and run the Wizard for you.

How do I know what firmware revision is inside my RPM?

In Drag Net, right-click on a Live Device and choose 'Properties' to view the firmware version. This is the only way to check the firmware revision of an older RPM 26z or RPM 2. The RPM 88/44/22 firmware version is briefly displayed on the front panel during power up. If a firmware number is not displayed during power up, you have an old firmware version that must be updated.

How do I download new firmware into an RPM?

The firmware inside the RPM is updated via Ethernet -- use either a crossover cable connected directly to the device, or update firmware over the network, or, starting with Drag Net 4.1 (or later), update firmware over the Internet.

New versions of Drag Net automatically identify potential software/firmware mismatches. An exclamation point(!) beside a Live device indicates a mismatch. Any attempt to communicate with the Live device will prompt you to run the Update Device Firmware Wizard

Alternatively, you can run the Update Device Firmware Wizard at any time from the Tools menu, or from the Windows Start Menu (Start > Program Files > Rane Corporation > Drag Net > Firmware Update)

This file is also located in the Firmware folder of the Drag Net installation directory on your hard drive.

Fixes:

  • The Following Enhancements to the Gated Auto Mixer:
    • A bypass for the look-ahead delay has been exposed.
    • A last-on option has been added to the input detection modes.
    • A gate depth parameter has been added.
    • The threshold values have been extended to -70 dBFS
  • The parametric EQ has enhanced bandwidth range and resolution (backwards compatible with earlier settings).

Previous Versions:

Version: 2.6

Fixes:

  • RPM 88 codeload (2.9) corrected to support host PCB test fixture, and port 5131/5132 supported without broadcasting.

New Features:

  • Added support for Drag Net 4.1 software.

Version: 2.4

Fixes:

  • SR 4 was being set to selections above 8 when it was mapped to presets (or other group levels) above 8, because of inverse Selection/GroupLevel table setup failure. Last 8 entries in table were not being ignored. Fixed both in firmware and Drag Net. SR 4 was being set to max selection of 16 by default, which had no effect, and Drag Net reported it as 8. Fixed in firmware, by checking using link assignments, and setting it to 8 for SR 4.

Version: 2.3

New Features:

  • Added support for Drag Net 4.0 software.

Version 2.2.3

Fixes:

  • Auto Mixer/Ducker Push to Talk bug fixed. In previous versions, the RPM would occasionally miss a Push to Talk event.

  • Analog output attenuation now goes to -30 dB

Version 1.4

Fixes from previous versions:

  • VIP allocation is off by one: it allows one too few remote controls
  • The device name is not initialized properly - it's a jumbled group of characters
  • Default IP Address changed to 192.168.69.22

Version 1.3 (1st production)

File: rpm88_fw1-3.bin

Fixes from beta versions:

  • Filters set below -12 dB cut are no longer fixed at -12 dB
  • Multiple shelving filters in the same PEQ block no longer interact in strange ways
  • The CD horn EQ now works properly below 3.2kHz
